I have been to a lot of football games and I am sure that I will go to many more, but it will be tough to top this one. Scotland County High School is known for football. Being the only high school in the county and being in Lauringburg, they really are the only game in town on Friday nights. Locals would tell you that everyone attends the Friday night home games, where having 5,000 – 10,000 fans present is the norm. The stadium is equally impressive and would rival many small colleges. From the massive home stands to the Jumbotron, to the custom rap and videos, they really do it up right for the hometown team. But in the end, the field is still 100 yards long and 50 yards wide and the game is won or lost by 11 players at a time. When both teams are talented, it takes “energy, efficiency and effort” for one team to “will the win” over the other. On this Friday night North Davidson brought all of those things and when it was all said and done, North Davidson had broken a streak of wins that started in 1997 and Scotland County had lost a home playoff game.
North Davidson will practice on Thanksgiving Day (the perennial goal for all high school football programs). North Davidson will then travel to Charlotte Friday night to meet the Cougars of Charlotte Catholic in the third round of the state 4A playoffs.
